Valparaiso – The San Francisco of South America


Valparaiso – a town known for being full of colourful graffiti, home to the famous Pablo Neruda, and the cultural, artistic centre of Chile. It’s also located on the coastline, giving it much higher appeal for tourists compared to its capital neighbor, Santiago. We arrived in Valparaiso just as the sun was setting, which gave us quite the first impression, especially since our B&B was situated on a street overlooking the entire town; the street itself was a famous sight-seeing spot for tourists and locals alike. The B&B was interesting as well. It was a colonial-style, 3-story mansion run by an old man and his daughter. Our room overlooked this street along with the bay and lot of the town.
